Cupping is a therapy that involves applying a vacuum effect via cups to the skin surface by way of heat or suction. In so doing, the suction draws pressure onto the skin and generally relieves tension.
Cupping is quite notorious for the dark bruising it often yields. This is not a certainty with every recipient and depends largely on the level of tension and stagnation in your muscles. The bruising is usually not tender to touch, simply a colourful reminder of what has been drawn out of your muscles and it is usual to only bruise that severely in the first treatment, as in subsequent treatments, the stagnation has already been addressed.
Cupping is not usually applied for very long to yield results as the invigoration of the channels gives wonderfully quick relief. It is one of the best forms of deep tissue massage available and can be a fantastic accompaniment to acupuncture too.
