UNDERSTANDING THE FORMULA
Using a combination of classical fluid metabolism formulas written by the sage of Chinese Medicine Zhang Zhongjing, this blend is based on the Chinese Medicine concept of resolving phlegm, strengthening the Spleen and dispelling dampness in order to resolve cough.
The combination of Cassia (Gui Zhi), Poria (Fu Ling), Schisandra (Wu Wei Zi) and Licorice (Gan Cao) create the classical formula Gui Ling Wu Wei Gan Cao Tang. This aims to transform congested fluids in the Lungs and direct rebellious Qi down. Adding Ginger (Gan Jiang) warms the Lung and Spleen Yang Qi to transform damp and creates a synergistic relationship with Schisandra (Wu Wei Zi) to ease coughing.
With the addition of White Atractylodes (Bai Zhu) we now have the ingredients for the classical formulas Líng Gui Zhu Gan Tang and Li Zhong Wan, two popular formulas used to strengthen the Spleen and resolve Damp for a wide range of fluid metabolism and digestive disorders.
A small amount of Fritillaria Bulb (Bei Mu) is added for its ability to clear any phlegm heat from the Lungs and keep the thermal property of the blend warm to neutral, while Dioscorea (Shan Yao) strengthens the Lung Qi, giving the body a gentle boost.
Add to your favourite broth or chicken soup or drink as a tonic.
